Heavy

Graphic Poster (2016)

I investigated styles of art and combined these styles to design a poster. Psycedielic art is inspired by psycedelic experiences and hallucinations. The psycedelic style was widely recognized in the 60’s. Hipster art is inspired by the hipster subculture. The word hipster was used in the 1940’s. Today, the culture is made up of young people who usually correlate with the mainstream. Sci-Fi art is inspired by futuristic science, time travel, space travel, parallel universes, extraterrestrial life forms.

The
Box Circle

Graphic Poster (2017)

To show tribute to an aspiring and talented poet, New Opera Live Series, The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College, presented innovative and remarkable variations of Nayyirah Waheed’s poems. For this exhibition, I composed a 24x36 inch poster that communicates Waheed’s arousing and controversial poem “The Box Circle”. “The Box Circle” explores an array of ideas, including the lesson of learning and growing from your mistakes.

No Harmony

Graphic Poster (2017)

Filippo Tommaso Emilio, a great poet and art theorist, once said, “My revolution is directed against the so-called typographical harmony of the page, which is contrary to the flux and reflux, the leaps and bursts of style that run through the page itself.” What Emilio meant by this is that he wanted to change typography from the formal and traditional style to something that is more complex and wild. For my graphic poster, I took his words and formed typography that mimics the destruction of the harmony. Typography is not always pleasant and delicate. Sometimes the best way to show the true meaning behind the art is to veer away from what is expected.
